Thanksgiving Offering

As we enter the final months of 2020, we can’t help but think about the unprecedented year this has been. Filled with both ups and downs and, if we are honest, lefts, and rights. Plans we had for this year went out the window in mid-March with the arrival of COVID-19. This virus thrust every person on this earth into a season of uncertainty not seen since the mid-1900s. Not only is it affecting every person, but it is also affecting everything. What happens when we can’t find solid footing in this world? We look to the one who has never wavered since the dawn of creation.

From the very opening page of the Bible, God has been faithful. After creating Adam and Eve, in his image, He blessed them. As image-bearers, we are created to reflect the nature and heart of our God to the world. Just like Abraham was blessed to be a blessing of all the families of the earth, God has blessed us to be a blessing. Even when we rebelled in sin against our God, He sent Jesus to die for us. God demonstrated his love for us in this—while we were sinners, Christ died for us. The Gospel is evidence that God is generous with us and faithful to us. He has met our greatest need, and He will continually meet our ongoing needs so we can live fearlessly and sacrificially. Even in the midst of unprecedented change, there is still much to be thankful for.

For over a decade, God has moved in the hearts of the people of Parkview Church to give above and beyond their regular offerings to be a blessing to the people of Iowa City and the world through our Thanksgiving Offering. Our goal with our Thanksgiving Offering is to supply our mission with funding that will help us as we reach out now and for years to come through Parkview’s ministries with the hope of the Gospel.

Targets for the 2020 Thanksgiving Offering
  • Missions Fund including:
    • Casa Hogar is a small orphanage across the border from Rio Grande City, TX in the town of Camargo, Mexico. Parkview is a part of monthly financial support and has been involved in special cases of child abuse rehabilitative services and gestures of encouragement such as new bedding, stuffed animals, etc.
    • Annual Summer Literacy Program in Bulgaria
    • A global worker training Hub in North Africa
    • Rapha House programs exist to extend unconditional love to those who have been rescued out of slavery and sexual exploitation. Every member of the Rapha House staff has dedicated his or herself to seeing each child restored to sustainable freedom through Biblical nurture/counseling, vocational training, education, and family reunification when possible.
  • Benevolence Fund provides financial assistance to those in our congregation who are in most need.  This fund is available to anyone that calls Parkview Church their home and is outside of our normal ministry fund. We have a dedicated team that tirelessly meets with and executes this fund.
  • Faith Academy is a K-6 Christian school that was founded by Parkview in 2013. Through Faith Academy’s mission to make a rigorous Christ-centered education affordable to all, 90% of the costs are covered by generous gifts from individuals and organizations. In the past, the Thanksgiving offering has provided much-needed resources and supplies that support the school.
  • General Fund provides the financial energy from which the ministries of Parkview Church flow.

This year’s Thanksgiving Offering will be taken November 22-December 5. Only gifts designated "Thanksgiving Offering", in the memo line of a check or online, will go towards the Thanksgiving Offering. All other, non-designated gifts, will be treated as a normal offering. Do not write your preferred target in the memo of your check, only "Thanksgiving Offering" or leave the memo line blank. Gifts for the Thanksgiving Offering will be accepted through December 31st. You may make contributions to our Thanksgiving Offering in the following ways:

  • Place a check in the receptacles in the back of the worship center at all three campus locations during in-person worship.
  • Make a contribution online at Choose Thanksgiving Offering from the drop-down menu.
  • Mail or drop off a check to the Parkview Church office at 15 Foster Road, Iowa City, IA 52245. Make sure to designate Thanksgiving Offering in the memo line.
