Church Update - March 20, 2020

Good afternoon Parkview Family,

These are historic days. An invisible enemy that is 20 nanometers wide (.0000008 inches) has dropped our world to its knees..the coronavirus. Turmoil and uncertainty are running rampant around the world!  We have an amazing opportunity before us as the Church, a people loved and rescued by Jesus Christ, to live out what we believe. We can walk through the Pandemic of 2020 in two ways—in fear and panic, or in the calm assurance that we know God—a people who know God is great, and He is good, and He is with us, and He is for us.

To help us continue to cling to our God, as a church we are continuing to worship together and connect with each other—to remind each other of our hope and to encourage each other to live boldly and compassionately in these days. We want to connect closely with Jesus and each other, and we want to serve and bless our city.

In light of the restrictions placed on us to gather, we have made some short term adjustments to keep our church connected and strong:

WORSHIP

  • Our Sunday worship services will be online-only until the restrictions are lifted. We will stream live from our website and Facebook on Sundays at 9am & 10:30am. This Sunday we are completing our Ephesians series with a powerful passage for our day…Ephesians 6:10-20—read it before we gather online, and let God remind us to “Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might”.  A timely message!  Both Facebook and our website stream have live chat capabilities to help you stay connected through our services.

  • Beginning March 29th we are doing a teaching series called The Unexpected King, a journey with Jesus to the cross and a celebration of His resurrection—a powerful series that will inspire us to live courageously and compassionately—just like Jesus did in the Passion week.

COMMUNITY

  • Our Community Groups will meet online in order to follow the guidelines set up by the CDC and the state. We are communicating with our Community Group Leaders to help move physical meeting times online and encouraging them to stay connected with their groups in creative and meaningful ways.  If you are not in a community group but would like to get connected with people during these days, contact the church office 354-5580 or email .

  • Our pastoral staff is devoting time to call and pray with our people. If anyone needs prayer or someone to talk with about how to handle the stress and anxiety of these times or to find help in Christ, please call or the church office and we will line up a phone appointment with a staff member or spiritual leader.

  • You can stay connected with Parkview Church through our Facebook Page and Campus Groups. Pastors will be going live periodically and providing devotional & prayer times throughout the weeks we are apart.

  • Family and children’s ministries are producing videos to stay connected with our students while they are home from school. Also, this tomorrow from 10am-11am KidMin will be handing out resources for your family to follow along with the Sunday service. Drive-thru the Central Campus church awning and pick one up for your kids tomorrow. UNITE also recorded a lesson for kids that can be found HERE.

  • Student Ministries has moved completely online. Connect with them on their social media platforms.

  • College Ministries is looking for ways to connect with students online now that school is all online until the fall.

GOING ON MISSION

  • These days provide us a powerful opportunity to put the Gospel on display.  Pray for opportunities for spiritual conversations with people who don’t know God—use these days as a chance to share the hope you have in Jesus.

  • We will be sharing available serivng opportunities after services on Sunday through an email so be on the lookout for that.

  • Be praying for our Global Workers who are dealing with this in their countries of service. Also be praying for our ministry contact throughout the world that the love of Jesus would prevail over all.

FACILITIES AND PROGRAMMING

  • Our church office is closed to the public and all ministry programming involving meeting in person are canceled until further notice. Our staff is still available by email or by calling the church office and leaving a message.

  • The Gospel Coalition Women’s Training Network Conference that was supposed to take place March 27-28 has been postponed to a later date. More information will be shared about the make-up date very soon.

FINANCIAL FAITHFULNESS

  • These are challenging times financially for many families and businesses in our city. Our church is fully dependent upon the prayers and the giving of its people. We saw a sharp drop in our giving the first week of meeting on-line.  We urge you to continue to faithfully and sacrificially give to meet the needs of our church family.

  • Online giving is available at parkviewchurch.org/give.  Assistance is available to help set up online giving by emailing . If you are not completely comfortable with online giving, you can mail your offering to Parkview Church, 15 Foster Road, Iowa City,  52245.

ONGOING COMMUNICATION

  • We will be sending periodic updates through email, but you can always find the most up-to-date information at parkviewchurch.org/coronavirus. You can also submit a prayer request or share a need or a praise update through this page as well.

  • Please feel free to reach out if you have prayer requests, practical needs, or would like to talk to a pastor. We will receive your request then connect you with a pastor or spiritual leader.  Email or call the church office at 319.354.5580 and leave a message.

WE LOVE YOU AND ARE PRAYING FOR YOU!
The staff continues to meet through Zoom and other platforms, and we are planning and preparing ways to respond to your needs and to capitalize on this unique opportunity to advance the gospel in our lives and in the city!

FIVE YEARS FROM NOW...
When you reflect on the Pandemic of 2020, what will your memories be? My prayer is we will remember much more than the creative ways we found toilet paper, or hand sanitizer. Or how we improved at playing Fortnight or caught up on Netflix.

My prayer is that these will be days that God gets our attention in a fresh way…that He is God, that He is our Hope, and that we will have many stories to share of how He changed us and how He used us to help many others find the hope we have in Jesus!

In Him,
Doug S.

Church Update - March 16, 2020

Good Afternoon Parkview Family,

As circumstances change daily due to COVID-19, we wanted to reach out to update you on a few things relating to Parkview Church.

Services this Weekend
As we have previously mentioned, we will again be livestreaming this weekend, March 22, at 9 & 10:30am. We encourage you to watch it with your family on Facebook or our website. We will update you with future Sunday schedules coming up later this week as we gather more information.

Facility Usage
We have made the decision to cancel all events and meetings at all three campuses for this week, March 16-22. This is being done out of an abundance of caution for our congregation as our staff is still gathering information to make the best decisions possible. We will update you soon with plans for the coming weeks. The church office is closed this week but we are regularly checking email and phone messages if you should need to contact us.

Community Needs
We are currently working on how we can serve our community during this uncertain time. We will update you with any specific needs that can be met, soon. If you have a need or know of someone in need please don’t hesitate to contact us at .

Pastoral Care
We desire to serve our congregation well during this time. Our pastors will be available for phone calls, Zoom online meetings, emails, etc. if you desire a conversation for prayer or just some interaction. If you are interested in connecting with a pastor we invite you to email the church at and we will set up a time for a pastor to connect with you on your preferred medium.

We encourage our entire congregation to check-in with each other regularly as our physical meeting times have become restricted. Don’t hesitate to reach out to others, especially those you know who live alone. We are all in this together.

We serve a great God who can sympathize with our greatest hardships. As we navigate our daily lives may we all grow closer to Jesus through reading His Word, singing songs of praise and giving our fears & concerns to Him in prayer.

Be sure to stay tuned to our Facebook page, website and your email for updates later this week. We love you all and are praying for His glory to shine bright through our church family.
